Two days ago a young Saudi woman was beheaded. Her crime, Sorcery and Witchcraft. It was the 2nd execution for sorcery this year. Philip Luther, the interim director of Amnesty International’s Middle East program condemned the execution of Amina Nassar, calling it “deeply shocking.”” The charges of Witchcraft are not defined as crimes in Saudi Arabia and to use sorcery as a crime for execution is truly appalling,” Luther said. The charge of witchcraft is often used as a smokescreen under which they punish people who exercise freedom of speech. The Saudi embassy in Washington did not respond to a request by the US for a comment.
This is another event in which the “poison of patriarchy” has killed a woman’s human rights. It is surely time for women to rise up and band together. It’s time for the Saudi woman to become “The Warrior Woman.”
